I graduated from from Boalt Hall School of Law in 1988. After a clerkship with a federal magistrate in the Northern District of California and a 2-1/2 year stint as a staff attorney at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, I opened my own criminal appellate law practice in 1993. I served on state and federal appointed counsel appellate panels throughout California and represented and advised federal defendants seeking post-conviction relief in federal district courts throughout the country. After five years of solo practice --- during which I briefed and argued cases in the United States Supreme Court and the California Supreme Court, as well as the lower state and federal appellate courts --- I joined a non-profit law firm in San Francisco. I continue to provide representation to criminal defendants on appeal and in habeas proceedings in state and federal court. I have expanded my practice to include representation of indigent parents in child dependency appeals. I also co-teach Post-Conviction Remedies at Hastings College of the Law, in San Francisco. Jono
